Glossary

Our weekly web terms for this week are CSS Grid, HTTPS, FOUC and CTA. Take a look at what they mean and all our other terminology in the full glossary below.

HTTPS

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.

CTA

A call to action (CTA) is a marketing term that refers to the next step a marketer wants its audience or reader to take. The CTA can have a direct link to sales. For example, it can instruct the reader to click the buy button to complete a sale or it can simply move the audience further along towards becoming a consumer of that company's goods or services.

Our Chief Editor

I like trains... No, really, I do.

Hello, my name is Jordan Newland, I am the chief editor and CEO of The New Web Times. I have worked in the web industry for the past 8 years working on both front and back end projects ranging from client websites to huge scale web applications. My specialities are HTML5, CSS, ES6 JavaScript, React for the front end and Node.js, GoLang, GraphQL and Postgres on the back end.

I decided to start The New Web Times as a side project during what little spare time I have and after what can only be described as a massive success over the past few months it has now become my full time employment which I look forward to every single day.

During my spare time, that thing I have very little of I like to play tennis, visit the cinema, listen to music at home or at the club and read about new technologies and other subjects such as cryptography, politics, transportation and space exploration.
